Frequently asked questions
1. Where exactly do we meet, and how do I spot the guide?
We meet in the center of Praça de Gomes Teixeira (also known as Lions Square), right next to the central fountain. Your guide will be holding a bright [Insert Company Color] umbrella.
2. Where does this tour finish? Is it on the Porto or Gaia side?
This tour finishes at Jardim do Morro, which is on the upper level of the riverbanks on the Vila Nova de Gaia side. It sits directly at the end of the top deck of the Dom Luís I Bridge. From here, you can easily walk across the pedestrian bridge back into Porto, catch the yellow line metro right at the park, or walk down to the WOW (World of Wine) cultural district for dinner.
3. Is this tour as steep as the Historic Porto Tour?
Good news! This route is carefully designed to be much easier on the legs. Because we start at the top of the city center and stay along the upper ridge before crossing the top level of the bridge, there are very few steep uphill climbs. It is significantly more accessible for casual walkers, families, and strollers, though comfortable walking shoes are still highly recommended due to the standard Portuguese cobblestones (calçada portuguesa).
4. Do we get to try any local food or drinks on this walk?
While this is not a full gastronomy tour, we love introducing our guests to local flavors! We make a quick stop at the vibrant Bolhão Market where you will have the chance to buy a traditional pastel de nata (custard tart) or sample a quick glass of local vinho verde (green wine) from the market stalls.
5. What happens if it rains during the tour?
Porto gets its lush green landscapes from its Atlantic climate, so light rain is common! The tour goes ahead rain or shine. In case of heavy downpours, our guides adapt the route to spend more time under the grand arcade roofs of the markets, beautiful train stations, and historic cafes along the way.
