Frequently asked questions
1. Where does the tour meet and how do I recognize my guide?
We meet in the center of Praça Luís de Camões, right by the large stone statue in the middle of the square. The square is easily accessible via the Baixa-Chiado metro station.
2. Where does this tour finish?
The tour finishes in the trendy Príncipe Real neighborhood, right next to its famous central garden. It’s an amazing area filled with boutique shops, trendy restaurants, and cocktail bars, making it the perfect place to grab lunch or dinner immediately after the tour.
3. Is this tour as physically difficult as the Historic Alfama Tour?
Good news: it’s much easier on the knees! Instead of making you climb steep hills from the riverbed, this tour starts at a higher elevation in the city. While we are walking through the upper districts (Chiado and Bairro Alto), the route is relatively level with gentle slopes rather than steep, vertical stone staircases. Comfortable walking shoes are still required due to the traditional cobblestone streets.
4. Do we get to try a «Pastel de Nata» (custard tart) on this tour?
We couldn’t let you leave without one! During our walk through Chiado, we will pass right by one of the absolute best artisanal bakeries in the city, where you’ll have a chance to grab a warm custard tart sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar, just like the locals eat it.
5. Is this tour suitable for families and strollers?
Yes! Because this route avoids the steep, narrow staircases of the older medieval quarters and stays on wider, flatter pavements through Chiado and Príncipe Real, it is much friendlier for families with strollers and casual walkers.
