Tapas, Taverns & Tradition: Madrid Gastronomy Walking Tour
«In Madrid, tapas is not just a style of food—it’s a social art form. But with thousands of bars in the capital, how do you separate the authentic, century-old taverns from the overpriced tourist traps? On this culinary journey, we skip the gimmicks and take you exactly where the locals go after a long day’s work.»
Eat Like a True Madrileño: Learn the unspoken etiquette of the tapas crawl. Find out why it’s normal to toss your napkins on the floor in traditional bars and why you should always stand at the counter.
Sip the Local Spirit: Move over Sangria! Discover Madrid’s real favorite daytime drink—vermut de grifo (sweet Spanish vermouth on tap)—perfectly paired with artisan cheeses and local olives.
The Gold Standard of Ham: Taste authentic Jamón Ibérico de Bellota (acorn-fed Iberian ham) and learn from an expert how to spot the difference between the premium grades just by looking at the label.

Frequently asked questions
1. Where do the tours start and end?
All of our central Madrid tours (Historic, Walking, and Gastronomy) start at easily recognizable landmarks, typically iconic squares like Puerta del Sol or Plaza de Isabel II (Ópera). Once you book, you will receive an exact map and a photo of the meeting point. All tours end in a central location with excellent access to the metro network.
2. What happens if I am running late to the meeting point?
Out of respect for the rest of the group, our tours start exactly at the scheduled time. We highly recommend arriving 15 minutes early. If you happen to run late, please send us a message via WhatsApp (you will receive our contact number upon booking) so we can guide you to our first stop to catch up with the group.
3. Are tours canceled due to rain or extreme heat?
Not at all! Madrid is beautiful in the rain and vibrant in the sun. Our tours operate rain or shine. During the hot summer months, our guides actively choose routes with plenty of shade and make strategic stops to keep everyone hydrated. We recommend wearing comfortable walking shoes, bringing an umbrella in winter, and carrying a bottle of water in summer.
4. I have allergies or dietary restrictions (celiac, vegetarian…), can I still join?
Absolutely! Madrid’s food scene has plenty of options for everyone. We just ask that you let us know your requirements in the booking form at least 24 hours in advance. We will adapt the tapas at each stop (gluten-free, vegetarian options, etc.) so you can enjoy the culinary experience worry-free. (Note: Due to the traditional nature of historic Madrid taverns, strict vegan options can be somewhat limited).
5. Is the food on the tour enough to replace a full lunch or dinner?
Yes, definitely come hungry! Over the course of the 3-hour gastronomy tour, we will visit around 4 different spots to try a variety of raciones, tapas, and desserts. Combined, they easily add up to a full, hearty meal.
6. Are drinks included in the price?
Yes! One drink per person is included at every food stop (your choice of local wine, beer, vermouth on tap, soft drinks, or water). If you would like any additional drinks, you can purchase them directly from the establishment during the stop.
